MONTH IN REVIEW

The remainder of March was fairly uneventful, which was fine with me. The end of February and beginning of March were a bit of a blur so I was happy to have a change of pace and two little dogs in my life. For Easter my mum sent us a couple of chocolate bunnies in the mail which brought back fond memories of chocolate eggs and other surprises. I have often remarked that living in BC and specifically Vancouver Island means that there is not much to complain about, and I am aware that my quality of life is at an all time high.

P.S. for those of you who have noticed that the altar is no longer in front of a brick wall, we have done some rearranging in our basement suite. If you go to www.clearoutclutter.com and check out the before and after photos, you can read all about how we created a new workspace in our living room for Angelo’s new home office. As a result, the altar was moved to another spot in the room.
Sunday March 16, 2008

Well, this weekend has been nothing short of remarkable. Friday afternoon I finally received confirmation of a date for my return to northern BC; I have been booked by Prince Rupert’s Crest Hotel and will be facilitating a morning workshop to their leadership team. Fingers crossed that either NWCC and / or the Terrace Library comes through.

Then on Saturday Angelo made a comment about setting up an office in the living room and that sparked an even better floor plan that we quickly set about implementing. We started rotating furniture, sweeping and vacuuming. Since we rarely used the fireplace (it might be different if we were in Ontario) we decided to work with the brick and make that wall the bench / workspace of Angelo’s new office. From there we moved the filing cabinet (which opens up my desk area even more) and the bedside table that held the phone in order to support the new shelf.

What a difference it makes when your stuff does double duty! We are creating an extra work area and isn’t taking up any new space (the fireplace was already there, but not serving a purpose in our lives; essentially it was wasted space). On Sunday we finished off the project by buying a piece of wood that was exactly what we needed to finish the workbench. Angelo is already working at his new desk (the best part: it faces out a set of sliding patio doors to our very green and lush backyard. I have commented before that there is a ‘bird freeway’ in our backyard…). Within 24 hours we had transformed our office space into a funky little bed-sit (and we christened the bed)!

And I, of course, am merrily organizing the new office store room, which used to be Angelo’s office and prior to that was our bedroom (it is the larger of the two). Now, it will simply house my workshop material, books, CDs and Angelo’s various computer parts and AV cables. There is a small, three drawer chest of drawers, a stand up closet and a wooden bookshelf. We are now on the prowl for a used shelving unit to house all the odds and sods, of which there are many.

The great thing is, we maintained an alternate sleeping place for when company comes to visit.

What’s next?!

MARCH = YELLOW

TO ANCHOR THE FREQUENCIES OF HOPE, JOY & HAPPINESS

I would like to maintain my sense of hope that my second trip to Northern BC will happen as I have planned. I am also hopeful that I will receive a cheque from a woman in North Vancouver who owes me about $400.00. On both of these accounts I am striving to remain detached from the outcome, and in the spirit of non-attachment, I think it is important that whether any of this actually happens, I remain happy and joyful. It’s not hard to be happy and joyful here in the Comox Valley; there is almost no traffic to speak of, the climate is moderate and I am able to use my bike for most of my errands.

The final two weeks of the month will also be spent dog-sitting, and the location of the house works really well for both Angelo and I. This is important because it is difficult to anticipate all that we will need and more often than not we need to grab some items from home.

This month my altar contains a couple of items that directly correspond with joy and happiness. A ribbon from my youth is significant because horseback riding was a huge part of my childhood and something that represents some of the happiest days of my life. I could ride for hours on end with no thought of school or peer pressure.

I also placed a pair of yellow-tinted sunglasses on the altar. These were purchased during a trip to South Beach, Miami with my girlfriend, Karey. Karey is one of a handful of friends that I have stayed in touch with (we met in 1996) and I have now made three trips to Florida with her. We always have loads of fun and the glasses are particularly useful in BC as I wear them when it is overcast and grey and the lenses give me a (false) sense of sunshine and happiness. My yoga block keeps me grounded and the continuation of yoga as a spiritual practice can be interpreted as a sign of hope since it has persisted for centuries. Happy faces and daisies are two more happy symbols, and the candle also signifies the flame of hope. All in all I enjoyed looking over at this altar, particularly since March was a fairly bland month, with rain, wind and grey skies.
